Potato Saagu Aloo Saagu
Ingredients1) Potatoes 600 gm 2) Asafoetida (heeng) a pinch 3) Black pepperCorns 1 tsp 4) Cinnamon 1"" stick 5) Cloves 2 6) Coconut, grated 30 gm 7) Cooking Oil 45 ml 8) Coriander leaves, chopped 1 tsp 9) Cumin (jeera) seeds 1 tsp 10) Curry leaves 6 11) Ginger, chopped 1 tsp 12) Gram (chana), roasted 30 gm 13) Green chillies 2 14) Mustard (sarson) seeds 1 tsp 15) Onions, chopped 30 gm 16) Red chillies, whole 2 17) Salt to taste 18) Tomatoes, chopped 30 gm 19) Turmeric (haldi) powder 1 tsp How To Make Potato Saagu - Aloo SaaguMETHOD: 1. Wash, peel and dice potatoes in half inch cubes. 2. Make a paste of the green chillies, roasted gram, cumin seeds, black peppercorns, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and grated coconut with a little water in a blender. 3. Heat oil in a kadhai. Add asafoetida, mustard seeds, whole red chillies and curry leaves. 4. When mustard seeds start to splutter add onions and saute lightly. 5. Add turmeric, stir and add tomatoes. 6. Stir for 2-3 minutes. 7. Add potatoes, salt and sufficient water to cover potatoes. 8. Cover and simmer till tender. 9. Add the prepared paste and simmer gently for 4-5 minutes. 10. Garnish with chopped coriander. 11. Serve hot with paratha. |
